Make it such a great experience at Teenstreet.

Inspiring. Great. Amazing.

Just got back from Teenstreet today, left on the 9th, Tuesday.
And my experience there is just fantastic.

I was supposed to go as service team, cos to go as a participant you have to be 17 or under, 18-21 is Service Team, and 21 and above are Coaches. Service team takes care of all the games, and the bookstore, cafe etc and Coaches are like group leaders, where you lead a group of 6 teens.

So being 18 this year I applied to be in the Service Team with Zhen and haha mana tau the quota was filled up so quickly and there was just no more space. Then my cell leader in church, Su-Anne, suggested that maybe we would like to go as Coaches. And my first reaction was like : oh cool ! Like that I still get to go to Teenstreet ! Coach.. so what. coach la, nvm wan, can wan. At least I still get to go yknow (Cos I was really looking forward to it as I had a great experience as a participant last year). Then I realized that, hey, I'm going as a Coach for the wrong reasons. I mean, was I just going as a Coach just so I could go for Teenstreet ? Just so that I can be there and have fun ? My priorities were wrong. Discussed with Zhen and we decided to give it a day or two to pray about it and to really see if this is what we were meant to do. I knew that there has to be a reason for everything, but does the quota for Service team being full up mean that I should go as Coach ?

I was doing my quiet time the next night and through it God spoke to me and showed that deep down, it was clear that I have a passion for working with younger people, to help them and guide them. It was time I stopped doing things I'm gifted with, like sports and athletics (if I were in the Serv Team) and use my other gifts to help others, to give back a little of my time after what I've been blessed so much with. I became an assistant coach to Pauline from SIB Chinese Church KL.

And so my journey began. Reached Teenstreet, and went to meet up with Pauline, who is the lead coach and the girls who are in my group. 4 of them are from Pauline's church and the other two are from Puchong and Perlis. I was so pumped up and excited to meet them, to introduce myself and to communicate and have fun as well as share my experiences to help and guide them. Then... haha.

One of Pauline's first questions was,
"So, Rachel, can you speak Chinese ?"
(you guys who know me know that I can't speak Chinese to save my life haha. Actually, I can understand but speak only a little and read.. nothing haha except a few characters)
So I replied, "Erh. Heh. A bit ?"
"Oh. Cos they all speak Chinese."
*Stunned silence on my part covered up by incoherent mumblings that sounded a bit like "oh... haha... nvm.... can wan... heh... try la... oh dear. Crap."*

How's that for you man.
So I started panicking and was hyperventilating (maybe not so melodramatic la) but yeah, I mean... HOW LA WEI. I wanted so much to connect with them but... hello ? Language barrier to the max lor. I thought, "I can't do this man. I really don't know what to do. How ? How how HOW."

Ah, but you see, God works in marvelously mysterious (or is it mysteriously marvelous ? haha) ways. Sure, day 1 was awkward alright. And yeah, I was stuttering and SO afraid they couldn't understand me even though I could understand them and the first Net time that night (where coaches do bible study with their Net) was a tad uncomfortable for me, and I was worrying and was so nervous and complaining (in my head of course).

But, it got better the next day, and even better the next day and improved the next and the next and ohmygoodness, I really really miss them now just talking about it. My Net members are PehWen, Crystal, Stephenie, Mandy, Oi Kha and Heidi plus Pauline and I. They're in the ages between 12-15. And they are just so great and awesome and such a lovely bunch. Language barrier ? BAH, c'mon, nothing's too great or too impossible for God. I could speak a little and they could speak English too actually. And it didnt matter that they laughed at my Mandarin cos my intonation and everything were funny (haha !) or that they sometimes couldn't understand me when I spoke in English cos, somehow, it all worked out ! Thank God ( :

PehWen on the left, Stephenie (red shirt) with her sister Crystal sitting above her, Pauline in orange, Mandy and Heidi. Oi Kha was at the back still working on her really detailed drawing.

And we bonded so well and we talked like we were just a bunch of young girls even though I was their ass. coach. I guess my age helps me to relate better to them. The other people from Pauline's church are Max, Manson and Daniel, and guys have separate Nets from girls, so I wasn't that familiar with them at first, but by the end of Teenstreet I could talk to Max freely as he's 17 and therefore closer to my age. The other 2 are younger and slightly more reserved but we still talked a little. They're such wonderful people.

There is always, always a reason for something. And this experience being an ass. coach is just so eye opening and a fantastic opportunity for me. The girls were amazing and really fun and so cute ! I can't help but laugh at myself at how I was so worried at first about the Mandarin thing, cos I know now that I should always remember to rely on God's strength and not my own for I am just human and that nothing is impossible with God. I was definitely brought out of my comfort zone for the first time. And that was really mind-blowing and scary for me at first, but it was not so after this experience. I seriously thank God man, that Service Team was closed haha.

I learnt so many things from the girls, and am so blessed that I am their ass. coach and also that Pauline was my coach because I could not wish for a more wonderful person to lead me.

Physically, I am much more tan now haha due to excessive playing of football and ultimate frisbee and captain ball and a lil basketball. Lol and my waist and thighs are aching haha, it was the football la. I would say that this was the first time I just went into a sport, only knowing 1 or 2 people, and ended up being friends with everyone after that just through playing football. We started off as a small group, just Pauline (another Pauline, not my coach) Yvonne, SuLin and we headed to a vast field where there were already 5 or so guys just kicking the ball. There we met this really nice guy, Josiah, from Penang, who was so insane patient with us girls who kicked like.. girls haha. He practiced just passing with us while the others played. I'm okay at kicking cos I used to play futsal with my bro and church but then, goal and field then were much smaller haha. So the keeper was Brian from Brunei and we just played in a small group with Jeremiah (Josiah's brother) as well as younger guys. It was.. about 3pm ? And it was hot haha.

Before I knew it, more and more people came and we decided to start a game. SuLin couldn't play because of her sprained ankle, so it was just Pauline and I. Two girls. Playing with 20 or so guys who seem to be very fast and tall and footbally lol. Scary ? Not a chance ! Haha I normally attack, but found out that I make a good defender too hahaha it was really really fun and Chris the speaker from Germany played with us and he's really good man. Nobody was keeping score I think lol We stopped playing at 430 and the sun was still blazing but haha instead of going back we headed to the hockey field for frisbee lol. Kolej Tunku Jaafar is huge man, the campus is insane. At about 5 plus a few guys managed to push Chris into the pool ! Hhahaha it's tradition I think to get the speakers into the pool lol.

That was yesterday, the last full day of TS, and last night was just so sad cos the last night of TS is always one of mixed emotions. So we tried to do as much and play as much and interact as much as we could. It was extended an hour haha we played a few things with a variety of people. Zhen and I got caught up in a game of Taboo with the Penangites and Bruneians and KCMCs which later turned into charades lol ! and finally the hand thingy game which was super lol man.

All these fun aside, I reflected and found that I would never switch this experience with anything else because it was such an encouraging journey for me.

With Mel, Chris and Max.

The girls with Pauline, Manson, Daniel and I

With the awesome worship team.

Stephenie and Mandy

Haha they're so cute la ( :

I really really like this picture ( : With PehWen

Hahahah it's so great to hang out with them la, the age thing was really not a factor. Of course it took us some time to warm up with each other but once we started, there was no stopping us. They made me feel young again. HAHA.

Rachel Chua who made it into Service team ( :

After the bus dropped us off at Kelana Jaya station before we headed back to out respective homes. With Pauline and SuLin, the ones I played footie and frisbee with, and even pushed Pauline into the pool haha ! And mind you, I met her just that day itself but we clicked :D

I'm so dead tired now. Haha couldn't sleep for 3 days straight over there, no idea why. So yeah. Tonight I'm gona crash man lol. So yeah, going off soon, to my Net if you guys are reading this, I miss you all so much ! Take care, and if you have anything or want someone to talk to, text/email me k or msn, but my msn is weird lol. And I'm really glad I met u guys !

Make it the last day of college for year 2008 !

Heh and so the college semesters have come to an end for the year 2008.
Seems like just yesterday (yeahyeah cliche phrase) since we first set our feet on Taylors grounds, new friendship explored and after a year, my, have our friendship blossomed and grew !
We learnt much from each other, for me at least, and it's so great that I'm in PL2 hahaha.
I sound like we're done with ALevels d and that I'm not seeing you guys for another SIX MONTHS next year lol ! Haha but mind you, that farewell post is gona be much emo-er.
Lol, but yeah, as 2008 comes to an end, it just shows how time flies and we only have another 6 months ppl, then we separate and venture off to pursue our dreams and careers. Haih, until then, let's fully appreciate what we have, as we miss things most once they are gone.

A few pics today haha as the last day of college for year 2008 ( :

Ms FionaGan, who wore the same top she wore on the first day of college. Actually we all planned to do that, but somehow tak jadi haha on my part, I tght that it wasnt officially the last day of college since we still have another 6 months, but it is the last day of college for year 2008 lol. Oh wells.

Make it at Twilight !

Okay okay, first and foremost, something very important, very much anticipated (better than unanticipated, but wrong context LOL), very much hyped about, and something I can't wait to do..

I'm watching TWILIGHT tomorrow !
Haha, yeahyeah may not be that big a deal for you lol but I can't wait to compare it to the book and criticize it if they get the parts wrong. Checked it out online, agree with all the characters and descriptions, except maybe Bella a bit, and Esme omg ! Yknow who's the actress ?! That Rebecca woman from Grey's, the Jane Doe Karev fell in love with, the one who lost her face. I didn't like her in Grey's, but I'm trying not to let that affect how I see her as Esme. I still don't like her though haha.
Oh, I cannot wait to see the cars on the big screen ! I nearly died when I saw the pictures. Here they are !

Edward's Volvo, silver S60R

Alice's Porsche 911 Turbo, which doesn't appear until New Moon : (

Carlisle's Mercedes S55 AMG

Rosalie's BMW M3 convertible

And the best for last !
The Aston Martin V12 Vanquish, which doesn't appear until Breaking Dawn omg, which is ages away lol.

Maybe that wasn't the best though, cos there's still Bella's Ferrari F430 !

Not sure which I like best though, a tie between the Vanquish and the convertible sigh.

Absolutely can't wait till tmw !

Lol anyways, dug up a few really random pictures haha dating back to like 2006 I think lol but Youth camp's coming up and then Christmas and I got nostalgic haha so just gona post em up.

Youth camp 2006

Granny's birthday, must be the same year; hair same length lol

Ah, how I miss the hair.

Cameron's, 2007 maybe ? Again, judging from the length of hair lol.

Zhen's birthday in The Curve, can't rmb when and I'm too lazy to count. 2005/6

Miriam's birthday, and yes, can't rmb when either. 2006 ?

Brother's farewell, hmm, 2007. Much shorter hair for me hmmm.

Hawaiian Luau 2008 ! Haha and my hair just keeps shrinking up lol.

More pictures but too lazy to wait for the thing to upload lol so I'm off now.
Can't wait to see Twilight, right YingXian !!
Haha, hyper much lol. Haven gotten this hyper over a show since... Harry Potter ? No, maybe Eragon.. whatever, still can't wait till tmw lol.

Make it a movie mania.

Okay. So. I thought Pathology would be a good watch.
Huh.
I tell you, it's one of the sickest, most sadistic movie I've ever seen, and that's saying something cos I watch alot of movies and am normally okay with all these gory etc stuff.

But Pathology, starring Milo Ventimiglia (Peter Petrelli from Heroes) and Alyssa Milano (Phoebe from Charmed) is far from normally gory. It's utterly disgusting. It's not so much of the violence or the weapons used to kill, or the presence of gallons of blood, it's more of the sadistic thoughts and morbid scenes and the methods used to kill and the presence of more than enough premeditation leading to the murders. If they were caught, they'll prolly be charged with custodial sentences, hahaha remember PACE 1987 Law ppl ?

Anyways, I would not encourage you to see it, or more like I would encourage you to not see it lol, though if you do want to, it's prolly better to see the uncensored version, cos it shows you the real horrors of the show, and hopefully you'll realize what kind of B-grade, sick movie it is. Watching the censored one would prolly leave you thinking, "Oh, it's not so bad. What's wrong with a little slashing and stabbing, poke here poke there." But it's so much more than that, people.

I won't elaborate on the storyline cos that may just encourage you to see it lol. I'm quite immune to all these thrillers, killing, slashing, open disembowelment etc movies, but it's still not a healthy watch. I still can't believe I spent money on that stupid movie. Doesn't benefit anyone at all.

The Sisterhood Of The Travelling Pants 2 on the other hand, is a good watch with lots of values infused in the show. Actresses are pretty good too, America Ferrera (Ugly Betty), Blake Lively (Serena, Gossip Girl), Alexis Bledel (Gilmore Girls) and Amber something haha. Anyways I wasn't aware there was a prequel to this movie but nevertheless, I could connect the story ( : Even that guy from Desperate Housewives, what's his name.. the one Bree married, the dentist dude, yeah, he's acting here too lol.

Another Cinderella Story starring Selena Gomez (Wizards of Waverly Place) and Drew Seeley is predictable. I think my favourite character is Dominique ! Haha Mary's (the 'Cinderella" played by Gomez) stepmother. Hahaha she's super funny la. So outrageous and in-your-face. One of the stepsisters is played by someone I had trouble figuring out. So familiar yet I couldn't pin point who. Then when it struck me, I couldn't stop laughing for what seemed ages ! LOL. You remember She's The Man, starring AmandaBynes, ? Remever the character "Eunice" ? The one obsessed with cheese hahahahha, and in her opinion cheese is "the best animal byproduct ever" ? Haha yeah she plays one of the stepsisters and is freakier than ever lol. Seriously man, the way she acts in this movie is roflable. Braces are still there lol. Gomez is hailed as one of the next top teenybopper singer/dancer, but I feel that others who have preceded her have done a better job ? Like Hilary Duff, Lindsay Lohan, even Miley Cyrus. We've yet to see Gomez more on the big screen and hopefully she won't disappoint.

I know I'm outdated, really, hahaha, but I just watched Mamma Mia recently ! LOL. And I lovelovelove it ! It's such a great movie, for me. The music's great, I really do like Abba, and the actors/actresses are splendid. There's a pretty good storyline too. I think I can watch it over and over and over again and will never fail to sing along everytime. It's definitely a memorable movie, I mean, who can ever forget Colin Firth in eyeliner and a doggie collar ? Haha and the songs are so appropriate for the scenes lol.

Some may see watching Madagascar 2 in the cinema as a waste of money, but nothing beats seeing baby Alex, or Alakay, with his big blue eyes and cute mews and dance moves, prancing around catching butterflies on the big screen. So, no, too adorable ! Haha, very very funny movie, everyone in the cinema was laughing non-stop, and the show does have it's values too that it hopes to instil in the audience. One of my favourite characters will have to be Marty the zebra ! Haha or should I say the herd of zebras ? I just like the zebras la. Lol. Cos they're like replicas of Marty, and they talk the same and they act the same and they're just so funny. And just a heads up for you guys who haven watched, MotoMoto, Gloria the hippo's love interest, is voiced by Will.I.Am ! LOL haha. So watch out for him tehe. It's a good movie altogether and yeah, you should see it ( :

I'm in the middle of watching The Accidental Husband, starring Uma Thurman, Colin Firth and the guy who acted as Danny Duquette in Grey's. It's a cute movie, but I can't comment on the ending, haven reached it yet lol. Going off to see it soon.

Other movies lined up for me are Death Race, the latest Indiana Jones (yes, I haven't seen it haha) and Hancock (yes, haven't seen that either).

There are SO many books out now that I want SO much to buy ! But I have to wait for the prices to go down a bit, which would mean I have to wait a while for it to come out in paperback haih.
I recently saw that InkDeath, the 3rd book to the InkHeart trilogy is out ! Ohmygoodness. Beh tahan lol. Then there's Cecelia Ahern's The Gift, and Brisingr by Christopher Paolini (which I think is by far one of the books I want to read most) and Eclipse and Breaking Dawn by Stephanie Meyers which are not new, but I have not read them. It feels like forever man for me to wait for the prices to drop sigh.

Anyways I'm off now to continue my movie.
Study hard for the rest of yr papers AS ppl, and all the best to the SPM-ers too !
Take care ! ( :

Make it different but the same

Starbucks' cranberry chicken sandwich is back !!
YAY.
But it's called berry chicken sandwich now, to fit in with the Christmas season -.-
Lol, but it's still the same old goodness-oozing carbo+protein+vege+nutty+cheesy+rosemary herby sandwich :D
I think it comes only during festive seasons ?
I'm eating one now as I type and the bread is crispy as it's straight from the oven and the cheese is melting and overflowing and I reach the middle... and the chicken is.. cold.
Lol, didn't warm it up enough haha but still, it's so good.

Anyways, I have one more ONE more paper left and I'm DONE.
Law data response tmw gasp. Aiyo.
Law essays were today, and I can't say whether I did well, cos I really don't know how I did, but hopefully I'll do well tmw !
Then I'll be free !
Free to read free to eat free to watch all the tv series till my eyes get screwy.
Free to fly.

Until next year of course... in February... when I find out my results.
Potong stim lol.

Okays I'm off now.
All the best for your remaining papers next week, Science ppl !
And to fellow Law-ers, c'mon, tmw's the last time you'll be doing all that PACE 1984 and Judicial Precedent and legislation crap. Until, of course, your actual degree.
So let's give it our best shot ya ? (:

Make it a hopefully good Senior Year.

Gona watch HSM 3 soon and it better be good haha.
It's their Senior Year, so at least there'll be pretty dresses to look at I hope ?
Lol.

Anyways, a shout out to fellow PL2s, I've just finished doing some Law, and I personally found that the Law notes Mrs Ong gave us are really useful !
Tehe if you dont wana study them, just read or skim through.
The style of writing of the authors is something I really hope to achieve lol.

My posts are getting shorter and shorter lol.
Oh and btw, Topshop etc are on sale now. Topman has paisley designed skinny ties for RM16 ! But that was on the first day of the sale, so it may be sold out by now lol.
You can go find out after your exams are over haha.

All the best, fellow ALevels comrades.
Take care.

Make it a Crazy Little Thing Called Love

Short announcement !

Right, so there's a concert/play tomorrow, Oct 18th, at SIB KL from 5-7.30pm.
And there's no entrance fee ! FOC.

It's produced by Colin Kirton of Footstool Players, entitled
Crazy Little Thing Called Love.

The same play will also be staged publicly at KLPAC from the 6-16th Nov,
but there's an entrance fee for that, which is a good thing though, cos it'll help support them in their current and future productions !
So, why not, you go check it out tmw, and once you discover it's awesome (I bet it is), go again and bring your friends to KLPAC !

'The old song says that "love is a many- splendoured thing", but reality tells us that "love" can be bittersweet.

For its 2008/2009 season, Footstool Players is proud to present Crazy Little Thing Called Love: poignant portraits of the ties that bind – and sometimes knot – in a collection of sketches pertaining to the themes of love, courtship, marriage and family relationships.

The play features a mix of comedy and drama, but all thought-provoking in some way in highlighting issues pertaining to relationships. There's innocence, idealism, joy, humour, reassurance, hope, regret, heartbreak, sorrow, and more – everything that comes with that "crazy little thing called love"!

You'll laugh, you'll weep. But most importantly, you'll also think – and perhaps also discover.'

I would encourage all of you to go !
Sadly, not too sure if I myself can make it lol.

SIB KL is at :
4th flr Bangunan Yin, No 7 Section 16/11, Jalan Damansara, Petaling Jaya

Make it run, baby, run.

We celebrated Clarys' birthday on the 30th of Sept !
At YeeLian's place which is somewhere in SS20/22 smtg smtg haha.
Headed to Ming Tien's after that just to grab some makan.
And I went home after that.
And after that at like 12midnight, what a fateful day, for the first time in my life,
fell down on the road, tore my left ankle's ligament, surface crack on the bone.
Weehee.
But it's not all that bad ! Haha, just, yknow, ONLY 6 WEEKS HEALING PERIOD.
